Spontaneous Exploring

Back in the end of September the hubby, a friend, and I went for a drive to the mountains. We started out driving through Beulah and drove the dirt road that goes over the mountain and comes out in Rye. If you ask me, it is much better than driving the interstate to get to Rye. But ya know... thats just me, I love being near the mountains and being able to explore them after a short drive.

So after we get to Rye, we stopped at Bishop's Castle (Its this awesome place a man built himself... don't worry I'm going to show you) and then we drove on to the Westcliffe area. We got out to an area I don't remember after that. We found a hiking trail in a burnt part of the forest and followed in until we got to Spruce Creek and then went home because we were very tired after our trip.

My Trip to the Zoo

I've grown up around animals. We've had dogs and cats for as long as I can remember and we've had all kinds of weird pets.... turtles, opossum, squirrels, flying squirrels,.... and I feel like I could be missing a few. And my mom worked as a veterinary assistant for several years. So obviously, I'm kind of an animal lover.

And somehow I never managed to go to the zoo. I always wanted to go but I just hadn't. Until this past October my brother came to visit and he took me. We had no excuse since it was right in town. There wasn't one anywhere nearby when we lived in Kentucky. The zoo was great except for knowing that all those caged animals are sad and could be in a much better place. Maybe in some zoos they are better, with more space and more natural(ish) habitats.  So maybe I won't give up on zoos yet.

Things I Wish I Could Tell a Younger Me

I'm pretty irritable today. I lost a friend for the most ridiculous reason. I'm frustrated because she seemed as if she only picked out things she wanted to hear and make it a big stink when it shouldn't have been. Whatever. I'm going to voice my frustration by posting things I wish I could go back in time and tell myself.

-First and most importantly, when your friends introduce you to Dustin Mounts, run as far as you can.

-You're not going to get in to the first college you want. You might get in if you apply next year but I know you and I know that you don't know what you want to do with yourself. You shouldn't waste your time going to MSU. You will meet no one who will benefit your life. Time, money, tears, and sweat will be saved. Find something else to do for a little bit. Take your time figuring it out.

-Don't try to be something you're not. You're just going to make life harder if you do.

-Don't waste time working all through high school with nothing to show for it. Save your money and buy yourself a car. Not anything Volkswagen.

-Your mom thinks she is right about Dallas. For once she isn't right.

-Josh is a great guy. He is a great boyfriend. You're not going to marry him so end it before you really hurt each other.

-Don't waste your time wishing for that one guy. It didn't work out the first 5 times you "dated" and its not going to work the next 5 times.

-You might think you should be a teacher at some point. You're wrong. Teaching is not for you. You're shy, you don't like public speaking, and more than 5 kids in a room will give you a headache.

-You might also think you want to be a travel agent. You're wrong on that one too. But this was a fun mistake so feel free to ignore that you know its a mistake. You'll meet some good people at Sullivan and some no-so-good people. You'll go on 2 really awesome trips and have alot of fun. If you do go to Sullivan at least go through the trouble of finishing. Its only 3 more months and you're going to have to pay back your student loans. So make sure you at least have something to show for it.

-It might not be fun at first but you should see your grandparents as often as possible. This will never be wasted time.

-In fact, spend as much time as possible with your family. They are the best friends you'll ever have and will always be there for you, no matter what.

-When you have your own place and you really want a pet, don't get a cat. You don't like cats.

-Don't bother looking at wedding stuff. Ever. Not even when you find Adam. You're going to be halfway done planning your wedding and elope. So don't worry about weddings... just plan to elope. Its simple, easy, cheap, and drama-free.

-When Amanda and Mikie get married, be a better bridesmaid/sister. Help as much as you can. But never agree to be in a wedding again.

-Don't get an apartment with friends. It will seem like a great idea at first. Its really a horrible idea.

-If I know me at all, I know that I'm stubborn and like to make my own mistakes. So when you date Dustin anyway at least end it earlier than you did. When it comes down to living in Morehead in an studio together or living in Lexington in an apartment without him, choose without him. If you choose Lexington, Nana will help you by co-signing for your apartment. She will want you to agree that he won't live there with you. Its a good deal and will make it a good time to dump his ass. He will never change. Repay Nana by running errands for her... specifically any to Pet Supermarket. Even if you don't need it, ask the cute guy with brown hair and blue eyes for help. Smile, blush, do your flirty thing because he will be the most important person you'll meet because someday you'll be his wife.

When I started writing this this morning it was just out of frustration. I wanted to vent but Adam isn't home. I didn't want to vent on facebook because it would only start drama. It started out because I realized all the people I thought were my best friends when I was still a teenager, aren't around anymore. And that made me look back and reflect on what made those friendship end. And about what I should have done differently, what would have saved me some trouble. Whether I'm right or wrong this time doesn't matter. I guess I might have hurt her and she hurt me right back. I did learn today that I'm not choosing my friends very wisely. I should really be careful of who I call a friend.

Trains!

I love trains!

The first train I ever remember riding was when I was 17 in Europe going from London the France. And then a few days later, we took the train from France to Italy.... it was an overnight train and I've been in love ever since. I don't even know what it is about trains. They have character. And the older the better. This weekend I found myself climbing all over several train cars hoping to find a door unlocked or hoping Adam wouldn't yell at me if I climbed on top of one. No luck. But I have pictures to enjoy!

Pueblo Chile Festival

This past Saturday, Adam and I went to the Pueblo Chile Festival. Being newbies in town, I told him it would make us true locals. I really wanted to go but once we got there I was ready to go. Its a local festival. The only reason I went to the ones back home is because I still lived with the parents and wanted to get out of the house. I figured out that unless you have money to waste (which I don't) then there isn't really much to do at a festival. I had my camera so it wasn't a total bust but we still left after making one pass down the street and getting one old fashioned root beer.

Pueblo Mountain Park

My husbands boss gave me a job at the greenhouse so I've been so tired lately! I got amazingly lazy in the month I didn't have a job! Its not really something I want to do very long but its easy enough. I pack lettuce. Its pretty simple so I don't mind doing it. The thing I like the best is that all our stuff goes to supply Whole Foods. Its kinda cool knowing where exactly where Whole Foods gets some of their stuff. :)

But I've still been having fun exploring the area. Over the weekend we went to Beulah about 20 minutes away to go to Pueblo Mountain Park. We went once before but we had just gone for a drive and ended up there and we didn't go hiking. This time we got to go hiking! :)

New Home

Its been awhile again... but I have a good excuse this time. I've been very busy moving across the country from Kentucky to  Colorado! But its good to finally be in a place that I can call home. :)

Adam and I have been exploring but it keeps happening when I don't have my camera. We were going for some coffee the day after we got here and ended up driving into the mountains. And then we went to Lowe's and ended up in Canon City in the mountains and in a 5 star restaurant in blue jeans and a t-shirt... but we met the owner and he said it was ok.

Yesterday we half-planned a trip to Colorado Springs, so I knew to bring my camera at least. We were planning to go to Garden of the Gods but once we got close we decided to drive to Pike's Peak but then we got distracted and decided to go to Seven Falls. But I got so many good pictures out there! It was amazing!

July 4th

I can't wait to not live in a neighborhood. My neighbors have been setting off fireworks since the 1st and it is the 5th. Independence Day is only one day. I understand it fell on a Monday this year. But does that really mean we have to do fireworks ALL WEEKEND?? Some people (like this woman right here) still have to get their butts back to work on Monday morning at 6am. If I got to bed at 9 I would get a full nights rest. Its usually somewhere after 10.... but I really don't appreciate everyone setting off fireworks on Sunday night after 11. So please if you live within 100 feet of someone else, be considerate. That person might need their sleep. If you must celebrate loudly... lets all agree on just one day. And if I thought everyone was really being patriotic I don't think I'd care as much but I know they just want to play with explosives.

Happy Independence Day!

Springy-ness

OK....So there was an obvious fail on my 365 project. No excuses... I just got lazy with it. I got busy with work and never got back into it. But whatever... I'm just going to do my pictures in general from now on. Enjoy!

Day 53

We went out to eat tonight. I looove some greasy "chinese" food anyday ("chinese" as in American verson of Chinese food, I'm sure they eat better over there) but ya know... fortune cookies just aren't what they used to be. Blurry but this was on the phone so... eh.

Day 52

The moon was almost full tonight. It looked awesome behind the trees. I'm not so good at night skies but I'd like to be. It would be alot easier with a tripod but mine was built cheaply and just snapped apart one day. So this is just me being still.
